We asked Sofia Omelyanenko , the winner of the fourth season of the Olympiad in the field of "Human Resources Management", a second-year master's student in the specialty "International Relations" at the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service, to share her experience.
I studied in the specialty "Human Resources Management" at the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service . In the 4th year, I attended the elective "Stressful Negotiations". After that, I began to study this topic in more depth, to look for where I could apply these skills, and I realized that I needed to go into diplomacy. So I decided to enroll in the Master's program "International Relations" at my university. As a result, I got a state-funded place, now I am writing my final thesis and preparing to defend my diploma.
Vladivostok is located near China and Japan, so the education at our university is aimed at studying Asian culture and training specialists to work with these countries. The university pays great attention to studying Japanese, Chinese and Korean languages, but also teaches English. I chose English as my main language and plan to study Korean. There are also many foreign students from China studying at our university, with whom we communicate a lot and exchange experiences.
It is not difficult to get into my university. In order to get into the International Relations Master's program, I passed an English test, wrote an essay, provided a portfolio and scientific research that I did over the course of 4 years of study. The competition last year was 4 people per place.
At the university we studied different subjects, the one I remember most was the subject "International Communication". I learned what holidays there are in other countries, what is customary to give, what colors and dishes different nations like. I was also especially inspired by the subject "Soft power of different countries". Soft power is the ability to get what you want by attracting, not forcing. I even took one of the topics for my diploma - "Soft power of Russia".
