London Mayor Boris Johnson recently announced a deadline to promote the use of cleaner taxis. The city council of the British capital has established that, as of January 1, 2018, taxi licenses will only be granted to vehicles capable of producing zero emissions.
According to reports from The Green Car Website, the announcement took place last week within the framework of the “New Taxis for London” event, organized by the Transports for London entity. There, the Mayor of London met with various companies that are developing zero-emission taxis, such as Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Karsan, Frazer-Nash and London Taxi Company.
The licenses that will be granted from 2018 will be for both electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. According to The Green Car Website, Transports for London is now studying various measures to support the introduction of greener Europe Cell Phone Number List taxis before the deadline. Among others, the possibility of the Green Investment Bank contributing to financing this reconversion is being explored. Transports for London is also expected to work with vehicle manufacturers to ensure taxis meet the requirements needed to operate in the city.

In statements reported by The Green Car Website, Boris Johnson acknowledged that until now the "Achilles heel" of London taxis, especially the older models, has been "the pollution generated by the rattling of their diesel engines." In this sense, Johnson framed the decision to set a deadline in his “mission” to improve air quality and drive innovation.
